Entrepreneurial Mindset

Some of us enjoy the opportunity that comes with exploring the challenges before us. We see these obstacles as a reason to have enthusiasm for the world around us because we see an opportunity to make some money.  This is driven by a mindset that is focused on finding solutions to the problems that surround your environment. It is informed by a curious mind. The ability to take the solution from concept to profitability is what is called an entrepreneurial mindset.

Curiosity turns a switch in your head as you begin to question if what you see is an opportunity to create value. This is the reason many look to improve their skills as they begin to take steps to overcome challenges. This is a decisive action that requires a clear indication of accountability and responsibility for the outcomes set before you. While there will be lessons from each action taken, the willingness to remain on the road to a different reality  that is key to the entrepreneurial mindset.  Here is video to get you thinking more about entrepreneurship.

How to Develop an Entrepreneurial Mindset

Did you know, the biggest killer to entrepreneurial success is doubt in:

  1. Your abilities – I do not know how to do this
  2. Your surroundings – I do not have all the right tools/ the right background and support to achieve this
  3. Yourself – I am not good enough to do this

Have a look at this video to see what the journey of entrepreneurship means for the entrepreneurs featured.

Key Entrepreneurial Success Traits

  1. Decisiveness: the ability to look at a problem or situation and make a confident decision to move forward.
Your ability as a decision maker will make or break your future success. When you can decide what to do, you do not delay taking action. When you cannot decide what to do, you are indecisive and kill your own dreams due to your failure to take action. So take the time to practice your decisiveness. Start by making the smallest decisions decisively. Take deliberate action daily.
  2. Confidence:
We tend to see our peers doing things and incorrectly assume they have always been good at it. The truth is that they learned to do what they are doing, and you can do the same. Yes, you can learn while you are doing.
  3. Accountability: you need to accept that everything that happens
  • at work is your responsibility
  • To your business is your responsibility
  • Whether you fail or succeed is your responsibility

“Did you know: your circumstances may not be your fault, but your actions are your responsibility.”

Yes, from this moment, you must accept that everything in your life is your responsibility. Hold yourself accountable for it. The entrepreneurial mindset requires you to take complete control and hold yourself accountable for your outcomes – both good and bad.

  1. Resilience: the ability to deal with making mistakes and failing.

When you misstep or find yourself surrounded by self-doubt, it is an opportunity for you to change the way you look at being wrong. Resilience enables you to think, act and move forward no matter how small your steps are while making corrections along the way.

Remember: The only people who do not make mistakes are the ones who do not do anything at all

  1. Humility: freedom from pride or arrogance – this will keep you focused and centred
When you focus on progressing from accountability to resilience your ability to move forward from failure, mistakes and missteps. This ability to move forward is only achieved through humility as this allows you to be teachable/coached. Yes, the entrepreneurial community is available to you. You need to be willing to learn from others. This will grow your entrepreneurial mindset and set you on the path to do big things. After all, to do big things, you need to grow and to grow you need to learn. Seek out mentors and coaches who have been where you are trying to get to while keeping the humility to accept their guidance.
